About

Red Gibbons-Lejeune is an artist and teacher based in London. Her Origami artwork uses a playful medley of saved, handmade, restored and robbed papers.

The butterfly is a recurring motif in Red’s work. She finds inspiration in its symbolic reference to resurrection and new life, love and longevity.

Translucent butterflies play on the ancient Greek word for butterfly - psyche - meaning ‘soul’, whilst multicoloured compositions, with their sense of flight and bright, speckled movement, evoke the collective noun for butterflies - kaleidoscope.

Red has been practising Origami and running workshops since 2004. She studied languages at Cambridge University before completing a Masters degree in Medieval Art History at The Courtauld Institute of Art in 2011, graduating with Distinction. She went on to teach Art History at Westminster School, and gained a diploma in the art of Manuscript Illumination through masterclasses at The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts.

Red also specialises in traditionally crafted, decorated initials. Visit www.paginaaurata.com for some examples.
